Introduction

Awards for Training and Higher Education (ATHE) provides centres with qualifications in business and management, accounting, computing, law, health and social care. ATHE qualifications are approved as progression pathways to Bachelor’s degrees and Master’s top up degrees by a number of UK and international Universities, providing significant tertiary education opportunities for learners globally.

Overview

The ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Law is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to the second year of a university degree. This qualification has been designed for learners who wish to progress to university and, when taken in combination with the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Law, allows learners to progress onto an LLB top-up degree programme (the final year of university).

 Typical Age

This qualification is designed for learners who are typically aged 19+ and above.

Qualifications

For learners who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:

  • A Level 4 qualification in law or legal studies, such as the ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Law
  • Equivalent international qualifications

 Language

For those whom English is not their first language we recommend the following standards of proficiency in English language skills or an approved equivalent for this qualification:

  • IELTs 5.5
  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2
  • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 162 or above
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic 42-49

The ATHE Diploma in Law is (120-credit) qualification.

  • To complete this programme, a learner must complete all (4 mandatory units) to achieve this qualification.

Equity and Trusts

(Level 3; 30 Credit). Mandatory.

This unit will equip learners with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles governing the law of Equity and Trusts. The unit aims to enable learners to understand and apply equitable rules to fact-based scenarios, to identify and resolve issues that potential clients may face in the context of different types of trusts and equitable remedies.
European Union (EU) Law

(Level 5; 30 Credit). Mandatory.

This unit will equip learners with knowledge of the European Union legal system and the main substantive aspects of the European Union laws.
Land Law

(Level 5; 30 Credit). Mandatory.

This unit will equip learners with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles governing land law. The unit aims to enable leaners to appreciate the scope of estates and interests in land and their method of protection.
 

Law of Tort

(Level 5; 30 Credit). Mandatory

This unit will equip learners with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles governing the law of tort. The unit aims to enable leaners to understand the foundations of tortious liability, remedies and defences.

Delivery mode

This course will be delivered via blended learning, to enable you learn when and where you want. You will be able to study at home or work, it is completely up to the learners on how plan and execute their study timetable. All the learning materials can be found online. Your login details and access will be sent to you immediately your registration.

Assessment methods 

This course will be graded with ‘Pass or Fail’. A range of assessment tools will be used, and this might include assessment through:

  • A research activity resulting in the compilation of a report
  • The compilation or evaluation of a case study
  • A critical review and evaluation of a chosen company’s policies, procedures and systems
  • A set project completed for an employer (also known as an ‘employer-engagement’ activity)
  • The production of a portfolio of evidence relating to a particular unit

Certification and awarding body

Upon a successful completion of this Programme as stipulated by ATHE, you will be awarded the ATHE Level 5 in Law. ATHE regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.

Progression and profession pathways

Upon a successful completion this course, you will gain an accredited qualification that will provide the pathway to enter several recognised Universities in the UK. You can progress to the following.

Entry to:

  • Employment in a managerial level job roles and other related sectors
  • ATHE Level 6 in Law
